Curls
Classic curls, my go-to hairstyle, are incredibly versatile and adaptable for any event. Whether it's a formal gala, a casual brunch, or anything in between, this hairstyle offers a timeless elegance that complements various looks. The beauty of classic curls lies in their adaptability – they can be achieved using a multitude of techniques and tools, allowing for endless customization to suit individual preferences and hair types.
The methods for creating classic curls are diverse, with options from hot rollers and curling irons to foam rollers and air wrapping. Each technique offers unique benefits and results, catering to different skill levels and desired curl patterns. Hot tools provide quick and defined curls, while heat-free methods offer gentler options for those who prioritize hair health
The size of the curling tool and how the hair is wrapped around it can dramatically alter the final look, ranging from tight ringlets to loose waves. This is why it's essential to understand different barrel sizes.
1/2-Inch Barrel (Smallest) – Tight, Spiral Curls
Creates super-defined, springy curls, ideal for retro or perm-like styles.
Works best for short hair or naturally curly textures.
Long-lasting curls with lots of volume but can appear coiled on longer hair.
1-Inch Barrel – Versatile, Defined Waves
The most commonly used size since it offers a balance between tight and loose curls.
Can create polished curls, textured waves, or brushed-out soft curls.
Works on all hair types and lengths, making it a go-to for hairstylists.
1.25-Inch Barrel – Soft, Voluminous Curls
Ideal for natural, undone waves that aren’t too tight or structured.
Perfect for medium-to-long hair as it enhances movement and flow.
Used for "Hollywood waves" and effortless beachy curls.
1.5-Inch Barrel – Big, Loose Waves
Creates soft bends rather than defined curls.
Best for adding body and bounce to long, thick hair.
Perfect for those who love glamorous, voluminous waves that flow naturally.

Besides barrel size, the way you wrap your hair around the curling tool will also determine the curl pattern. For a uniform shape, you want to wrap your hair flat against the barrel, and for beachy curls, you twist the hair along the barrel or once you've released that section from the clamp. The best results you're going to see, especially with an iron with a clamp, is going to be when you curl away from your face. Not only will this imitate a blowout look, but it will enhance your facial features the best.
For my favorite curls, I always reach for the 1.25” Bio Ionic Long Barrel curling iron – it's my absolute go-to hot tool. It gives the most beautiful perfect curls for a night out, and still looks fabulous the next morning. Although other people would opt for affordable options, such as the Beachwaver Rotating Curling Iron, Conair Double Ceramic Curling Iron, or the Hot Tools 24K Gold Curling Iron.
Mousses and gels can add volume and hold, while serums and oils can provide shine and control frizz. Brushing out the curls creates a softer, more relaxed wave, while leaving them intact offers a more defined and polished appearance. And before I go in with any heat tools, I like to spread the IGK Antisocial Bond-Building Repair Dry Hair Mask all over my ends for soft and refreshing hair. Ultimately, the allure of classic curls lies in their ability to effortlessly elevate any look, offering a touch of sophistication and glamour that transcends trends and occasions.
Updo
With the rise of sleek back hairstyles, the slicked-back ponytail or bun has become a go-to choice for those looking for an effortlessly polished and sophisticated appearance. This timeless updo is seen everywhere—from runways to red carpets, fashion influencers to business professionals, and even as an everyday practical style for busy individuals.
Much like curls, a sleek updo is incredibly versatile and can be adapted for any occasion, whether it's a formal event, casual day out, or even an intense workout session. However, unlike curls, a slicked-back ponytail or bun takes significantly less time to achieve, making it the ultimate low-maintenance yet high-impact hairstyle for those who are constantly on the move.
To start, the slick back will always work best on the last days of your washing cycle. This is because the oils that are already in your hair will help tame the flyaways and lock your bun or pony into place.
One of the best things about the slick-back hairstyle is that it’s not just sleek and stylish—it also doubles as a hair care hack. This look allows you to apply nourishing hair growth products, like oils, without worrying about a greasy finish. It’s a two-in-one solution that keeps your hair looking polished while hydrating and strengthening your scalp at the same time.
One product I suggest is the Moroccanoil Treatment Hair Oil. It’s lightweight yet deeply conditioning, making it perfect for adding shine, reducing frizz, and promoting hair health. Simply apply a small amount towards the top of your head before brushing your hair back, and you’ll achieve that slick, put-together look while giving your strands the care they deserve.
Instead of using your regular hair comb, opt for a boar bristle brush., which grips and gathers hair much more effectively. This type of brush helps distribute natural oils evenly, smooth frizz, and create that sleek, sculpted look without tugging or causing breakage. Pairing the right tools with the right products ensures your slick-back stays flawless and healthy all day long!
Lastly, there are several products to address any stubborn baby hairs or flyaways that can further protect the updo. Something like the Amika On-Lock High Hold Hair Wax can be applied directly to the hairs to smooth them down and hold them in place.
The Amika Fluxus Touchable Hairspray can be lightly misted over the entire updo to provide overall hold and control.
Alternatively, a small amount of gel can be used to tame and smooth down any unruly hairs. These final steps will perfect your updo, keeping it secure and flawless all day long.
Straight
To complete the list of effortless hairstyles, simply straight hair is another timeless option. A sleek, straight style exudes elegance and can be easily achieved with a good flat iron, heat protectant, and shine serum for a polished, frizz-free finish.
Straight hair is a sought-after style among those with naturally curly or textured hair, as it often provides a sleek, polished appearance that contrasts with their natural curl pattern. Many would turn to temporary methods like flat irons for straightening, though these require time and regular upkeep. Alternatives, such as blow-drying with a round brush, offer a smoother finish but are also temporary.

For longer-lasting results, keratin treatments smooth and straighten hair for months, while chemical treatments like "reverse perms" permanently straighten hair, reducing daily styling needs. You can choose a way that works best for what you want to achieve. Keep in mind, each approach takes different amounts of work and the results last for different lengths of time.
Of course, like the other hairstyles in this guide, you can achieve this to your liking with flexibility in style and technique. Some prefer pin-straight, ultra-sleek locks, while others prefer a softer, more natural, straight look with some movement.

The perfect blowout has always been popular. This look combines the smoothness of straight hair with soft volume and bounce, giving it a luxurious, salon-finished feel. A great blowout can be achieved using a round brush, a blow dryer with a concentrator nozzle, and a volumizing mousse or lightweight styling cream for added body and shine.
For a more effortless take, the modern straight-hair trend also embraces subtle bends or flipped ends, often seen on runways and celebrities, adding a chic, lived-in effect. Whether you prefer a bone-straight finish or a voluminous blowout, straight hair remains a classic, low-maintenance, yet stylish option for any occasion.
Depending on your preferences, time commitment, and desired results, there's a method to suit every need. Whether you’re looking for a quick fix or a permanent transformation, choosing the approach that best fits your lifestyle and hair care goals.
